Palms can easily be used in the garden bed or in containers. Single grown container palms are great accents for entryways, and patios. Grouping several palms together in the garden can give a lush feel. Palms prefer light shade or full sun for older specimens. Use soils that drain well yet retain some moisture for good growth. Older palms can be grown on the dry side without any adverse effects. Most palms can tolerate cool conditions right into the fall but do need to be brought in before heavy frost is expected. Overwinter palms as house plants in a greenhouse or in an area where they can get bright light. While indoors, keep the plant a little on the dry side.
