The Fulton County 4-H Program has recently received a generous donation of rocks and fossils. These are to be given away to any 4-H members interested in them.

There are some rock samples, but most of the materials do contain fossils. While many of these fossils have been collected around Illinois, several are from outside the state.

These specimens have not been prepared; in other words, they haven’t been exposed, polished, or identified. All specimens are in their natural state, and some are quite large.

4-H members are invited to come to this Rock and Fossil Give-Away event and select any samples they would like to have. There is no limit on how much you take, but it will be first come, first served, as some types may be limited.

Many of these specimens are heavy, so bring a box to collect your samples and a notebook and pencil to record the collection locations.This will be held Saturday, November 16, at 10 a.m. at the Extension Office. This will conclude at 12 noon, or earlier if all the specimens have been taken before then.
