TENTATIVE Plant List
Natives: Wide variety of native plants such as, but not limited to, black-eyed Susans, common milkweed, swamp milkweed, asters, beebalm, and coneflowers. Please note: Because many of our sale plants are grown by volunteers offsite, we cannot put together an exact, final plant list prior to the event. For example, some plants may arrive too small to sell or there may be an unreported crop failure.
Nursery-Stock Perennials: These plants are sourced from our community partners, Winding Creek Nursery and Red Bud Creek Nursery. We don’t know what the nurseries are able to provide until the day of the sale.
Vegetables/Herbs: Several tomato and pepper varieties, as well as other garden veggies and herbs. Tomatoes include large, medium, cherry, and paste varieties, and pepper plants include multiple hot and sweet options. See expected list here.
Other FAQs
Will you have heirloom varieties? Our tomato seeds are sourced commercially so they are not considered heirloom. We choose varieties for their disease resistance and use our experience on what grows well in Kendall County. Click here for more information on heirlooms.
What about GMO? We do not use genetically modified seeds.
Are your plants considered organic? We have most likely used a synthetic fertilizer on the plants while they were in the seedling stage however, we do not apply pesticides during the growing process.
I can’t make it on Saturday, when is the surplus sale? This year, the pop-up sale will be Monday, May 20 from 3:30-6 p.m. at the Extension office.
