About This Program
During this field sketching session, participants will engage in slow, close observation of nature and sketch in real time. The focus will be on recording details for scientific or personal enjoyment.
Sketching tools and techniques will emphasize capturing basic shapes, impressions, and identifying characteristics without requiring advanced drawing skill.

Supplies – Required
- 5" x 8" spiral-bound drawing or mixed media sketchbook
- Two soft drawing pencils (4B, 2B)
- Two hard drawing pencils (2H, 4H)
- Kneaded eraser
- Retractable stick eraser
- Large bulldog clip or rubber band
- Set of 12 colored pencils
- Pocket pencil sharpener
Supplies - Optional
- 6" plastic or aluminum ruler
- Pencil compass/divider
- Magnifying Glass
- Color Finder (we will make these in class)
For Your Comfort/Optional
- Sun visor or hat
- Blanket or folding chair
- Small backpack or shoulder bag to carry supplies
Facilitator recommendations:
- Drawing Pencils: Faber-Castell, General's, Koh-I-Noor, Staedtler
- Stick Eraser: Tombow, Staedtler, or Pentel
- Colored Pencils: Prismacolor, Derwent, or Blick Studio (but any softer leaded pencils work well; Crayola and other school brands are much too hard)
- Sharpener: Staedtler Double Hole Sharpener or Derwent Two Hole Sharpener
