Meeting and Educational Program
Join us for an afternoon of learning and stewardship along Kickapoo Creek! We'll begin with a presentation from the Friends of Kickapoo Creek, who will share the history of the organization, the current state of the creek, ongoing restoration efforts, recent accomplishments, and the challenges they continue to face. This is a wonderful opportunity to learn how local volunteers are making a difference in one of our region's important waterways.

Cleanup Float
Following the presentation, those who wish to participate are invited to join the Friends of Kickapoo Creek's monthly cleanup float. Volunteers will paddle sections of the creek while removing litter and debris to help improve wildlife habitat and water quality. Whether you're an experienced paddler or simply interested in supporting local conservation efforts, we'd love to have you join us!

Vessel Information
We encourage volunteers to bring their own canoe, kayak, or other personal vessel if they are able.
If you do not have your own, please use this registration to reserve a seat in one of The Friends of Kickapoo Creek canoes. Space is limited and will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis.

Accessibility Notes
  • This activity involves getting in and out of a canoe or kayak from the shoreline, paddling on moving water, and walking short distances on uneven terrain while collecting trash.
  • Volunteers should feel comfortable with light-to-moderate physical activity and with being on the water for an extended period.
  • If you need a specific accommodation or want to discuss whether this activity is a good fit for you, please contact me at BLC21@illinois.edu—we are happy to talk through options.
  • Shore-based clean-up opportunities may be available for those who prefer not to be on the water.

Location

The meeting location will be determined closer to the event. Considerations will be made based on water levels and number of participants. It will most likely be near a boat ramp, along Kickapoo Creek, between Bartonville and Farmington Road. Registered participants will be notified via email.

If you need a reasonable accommodation to participate, please contact
