4-H offers family fun day at Dickson Mounds

Though summer is ending, there’s still plenty of time to venture outdoors to enjoy the warm weather – and 4-H can help! The 4-H Outdoor Adventure Family Fun Day on Sat, Aug. 27 will provide an opportunity for families to have fun and explore nature together. Special presenters will offer hands-on activities like kite making, tree identification, and watershed demonstrations to help folks learn new skills and enjoy the great outdoors! Plus, families can visit the museum and hike the surrounding trails.

The Outdoor Adventure Family Fun Day is offered in conjunction with the 4-H Adventures in Nature program, which wraps up this month. During the 4-H Adventures in Nature program, families engaged in monthly, nature-based challenges to earn prizes while exploring the natural world around them. Over 100 families from all over the state participated – and now it’s time to celebrate their accomplishments!

Everyone is welcome to attend the Outdoor Adventure Family Fun Day whether you were able to participate in the 4-H Adventures in Nature challenges this summer or not! So, please join us for a fun day outdoors. If you weren’t able to participate in 4-H Adventures in Nature, but would like to use the challenges, you can find them at go.illinois.edu/NatureFamilyChallenges.

The event is free and open to the public, however we request that you RSVP at go.illinois.edu/AdventureFamilyFun so we have the appropriate amount of food and activity materials. The event will take place at Dickson Mounds State Museum (10956 N. Dickson Mounds Rd., Lewistown) on Aug 27, 10 AM– 2 PM. A hot dog lunch will be provided.

If attendees need accommodations to participate, please contact Emily Schoenfelder, University of Illinois Extension, Fulton-Mason-Peoria-Tazewell Unit 4-H educator at eschoe@illinois.edu. Early requests are strongly encouraged to allow sufficient time to meet your access needs.
