Many 4-H clubs do community service projects throughout the year, but at Christmas time, they are especially busy with community service. Some of the activities that local 4-H clubs are doing are collecting canned goods and donating money to the food pantry; going shopping for food and helping fill food boxes for families; purchasing tag tree (Angel tree) gifts for children who might not otherwise have a nice Christmas; ringing the Salvation Army bell; donating to a local toy drive; donating items to nursing home residents; having a float in a Christmas parade; and much more.
There are currently 18 separate 4-H clubs in Fulton County, spread out over the entire county. To be in 4-H this program year, youth must be age 8-18 as of 9/1/19.
The 4-H pledge reads, “I pledge my head to clearer thinking, my heart to greater loyalty, my hands to larger service, and my health to better living, for my club, my community, my country, and my world.” Service to others has always been an important part of 4-H, and it continues to be so.
