Fulton 4-H hosts dog obedience school for youth and adults

LEWISTOWN, Ill. - University of Illinois Extension in Fulton County and Dog Training by Danette will offer a Dog Obedience School for both youth and adult owners and their dogs.

 The sessions will begin on June 5 at 6 p.m. at the Fulton County Fairgrounds in Lewistown. The four sessions will be instructed by Danette Phelps of Plymouth, and will be held on Wednesdays, June 5, 12, 19, and 26.

A registration fee ($30 for youth 8-18, $60 for adults) payable to the instructor will cover the four weeks of training. To participate, registration and payment are due to the U of I Extension office in Lewistown by May 31. Call the Extension office at 547-3711 to receive a registration form or stop by their office in the Farm Bureau building, at the junction of Routes 97 and 100. The form and information can also be found online at go.illinois.edu/FultonDogTraining. The Dog Obedience School will be canceled if not enough registrations are received.

Participating dogs must be at least six months of age, and have up to date shots, including an immunization for Parvo Virus. You must submit a copy of the rabies slip with the registration form. Participants must bring a choke chain collar and a six-foot leather lead strap. The trainer must be able to control his or her own dog, and only one handler per dog can participate in this four-week session. Any dogs that are a danger to others are not allowed, regardless of the breed.
