Fulton County 4-H members do well in State Fair junior livestock shows

LEWISTOWN, Ill. - Forty-three Fulton County 4-H members exhibited their livestock at the 2021 Illinois State Fair Junior Show. Fulton County has a long-standing tradition of excellence at the State Fair, having one of the larger delegations in livestock. Some of the livestock classes are called Land of Lincoln classes.  Land of Lincoln classes are only for animals which are Illinois bred, born, and solely owned and exhibited by Illinois residents. 

Following are the Fulton County 4-H members who placed in first through tenth places in the Junior Department Livestock classes. Several Fulton County exhibitors also showed in the Open Livestock Shows.

In Beef, Angus Heifers, Emma Eathington placed first in Angus heifers born 2/11/20 to 2/24/20 and 7/3/20 to 8/12/20, and showed the Supreme Champion Angus Heifer, all regular class and Land of Lincoln.  Ella Eathington placed first in Angus heifers born 4/12/20 to 4/22/20 and 9/2/20 to 9/21/20, also Land of Lincoln. Kyle Eathington placed seventh in the class for those born 9/14/19 to 10/25/19, also Land of Lincoln. Brynlee Hodel placed second in the 2/11/20 to 2/24/20 class. Kyle Eathington placed third in the class for Chianina Heifers born 5/5/20 to 6/15/20.  In All Other Breeds Heifers, Land of Lincoln, Emma Eathington placed first.

In low percent Simmental Heifers, Alyssa Fidler placed fourth for those born 1/11/21 to 2/20/21.  Jenna Spangler placed third for those born 3/1/21 to 4/15/21. Nathan Spangler placed fourth for those born 3/27/20 to 4/7/20.  In Maintainer Heifers, Ella Eathington placed second for those born 1/2/20 to 2/2/20, and Caroline Spangler placed second for those born 5/2/20 to 6/15/20.

In Shorthorn Plus Heifers, Carly Powell placed first for those born 5/3/20 to 6/9/20, and MaKenzie Bartlett placed seventh for those born 3/10/20 to 4/24/20.  In Simmental Heifers, Nathan Spangler placed fifth (fourth in Land of Lincoln), and Halee Hendel, sixth (fifth, Land of Lincoln), for those born 2/1/21 to 2/28 to 21. Jenna Spangler placed seventh for those born 4/1/20 to 4/28/20, and Morgan Hendel placed sixth for those born 5/2/20 to 5/26/20, fourth in Land of Lincoln.

In Angus Steers, Kyle Eathington placed third for those 1210-1303 pounds, also Land of Lincoln. Shay Powell placed seventh in Hereford and Polled Hereford Steers 1382-1440 pounds, also Land of Lincoln.  In Simmental Steers, Taylor Hendel placed seventh for those 1248-1341 pounds (third in Land of Lincoln), and Tanner Foose placed third for those 1375-1495 pounds.  In Crossbred Steers, Tanner Foose placed fourth for those 1410-1420 pounds, and Addison Fidler placed first for those 1425-1455 pounds.

In Performance Cow-Calf Pairs, Jenna Spangler placed first in the class for aged cows born before 9/1/16, and was named Grand Champion.

In Swine, Barrows, Eli DeCounter placed sixth with a Berkshire 243-254 pounds, also Land of Lincoln. In Crossbreds, Bradlee Ellis placed sixth in the 232-235 pound class and ninth for those 244-247 pounds. Braydon DeCounter placed seventh in the 236-238 pound class and sixth for those 275-277 pounds.  Zac Terwilliger placed fourth for those 251-253 pounds, and Cameron Postin placed third for those 257-258 pounds.  Braylee Irwin placed sixth for those 263-264 pounds, and Sloan Miller placed seventh for those 279-280 pounds. Morgan Wagner placed third for those 281-283 pounds, and sixth for those 271-273 pounds.  Collin Robbins placed ninth in the class for ones 271-273 pounds.

In Duroc Barrows, Cameron Postin placed sixth in the 242-255 pound class, also Land of Lincoln, and Eli DeCounter placed seventh in the 257-260 pound class, sixth in Land of Lincoln.  In Herefords, Collin Robbins placed sixth in the 277-285 pound class, also Land of Lincoln. In Yorkshires, Braydon DeCounter placed first, and Olivia Miller, fourth, in the 259-268 pound class, both the same in Land of Lincoln.

In Crossbred Gilts, Morgan Wagner placed first in the class for those 274-279 pounds, and was named Junior Reserve Grand Champion Gilt.

Bradlee Ellis placed fourth in the Duroc gilt class for those born 1/1/21, third in Land of Lincoln.  In Herefords, Collin Robbins placed second, and Cole Robbins, sixth, for those born 1/21/21 to 2/6/21, both the same in Land of Lincoln.  For Poland Chinas, Braylee Irwin placed seventh for those born 1/21/21 to 1/30/21, also Land of Lincoln. 

In Market Lamb Wethers, on-foot, Ayden Mench placed fifth for Suffolks 129-134 pounds,  fourth in the Hampshire 127-135 pound class, and third for Crossbreds 140-148 pounds..  Miley Nelson placed fourth in the Hampshire 150-162 pound class, and seventh in the Natural Color class 127-136 pounds. Bryer Nelson placed fifth for Crossbreds 134-138 pounds, and Cooper Nelson placed sixth in the 140-148 pound class.

In Land of Lincoln Breeding Sheep, Kelsey Patterson placed fifth in the Montadale Ewe Lamb class for those born from 1/1 to 2/15.

In Meat Goat Wethers, MaKenzie Bartlett placed fourth for wethers 76-80 pounds.

In Poultry, Bantams, Eli DeCounter placed fourth with a feather legged pullet, first with a rose comb clean leg cockerel, and first with a rose comb clean leg pullet.   In Large Fowl Chickens he placed second with an All English Breeds Pullet, first with an All Other American Breeds Cockerel, and second with an All Other American Breeds Pullet.

In Rabbits, Californian, Braydon DeCounter placed second with an intermediate buck, third with an intermediate doe, fourth and fifth with junior bucks, fourth and fifth with junior does, third with a senior buck, and fourth with a senior doe.  In the Florida White breed, he placed first with a senior doe, and was Best of Breed.  In New Zealands, Braydon placed first with an intermediate buck, third with an intermediate doe, second with a junior buck, second with a junior doe, first with a senior buck, and third with a senior doe.  Braydon was named Reserve Champion Senior Showman.
