Teacher Tuesdays offers workshop on integrating STEM and social-emotional learning for educators

Good educators are some of the most valuable assets in our community. For over five years, University of Illinois Extension has worked with local partners to offer Teacher Tuesdays. This program has provided professional development, encouragement, and connection to educators throughout the state. The next Teacher Tuesdays event will be an engaging, in-person workshop and professional development opportunity on February 1, focused on integrating STEM and social emotional learning (SEL). The event will be held at Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois.

Participants will learn from Michelle Edgcomb-Friday about the benefits of integrating social-emotional skills into STEM learning. They will also have the unique opportunity to engage with Alyssa Emanuelson and her facility dog Piper from Pups of Peoria Public Schools, as well as some members of WAGS from Bradley University. They will share some of the ways that therapy dogs benefit students in school settings, as well as how Bradley students are training service dogs. The final presenter is Krista Jiroutek, from Impact Life who will share about blood typing activities that you can bring to your school.

The Teacher Tuesdays event is Tuesday, February 1, from 5-6:30 p.m. at Olin Hall, Bradley University. Please register by Monday, January 31 at go.illinois.edu/TeacherTuesdays. The event is free and open to the public, and teachers may be eligible to earn ISBE professional development hours by attending.

In person attendance will depend on COVID protocol. If necessary, the workshop will be offered virtually.
