Dickson Mounds Trail Tour - Fulton-Mason-Peoria-Tazewell Master Voluneers

Event Date(s)
Location
Dickson Mounds Museum, 10956 N Dickson Mounds Rd, Lewistown, IL 61542

Extension Master Gardeners and Master Naturalists are invited to join Extension staff  for a hike on the new trail system with Caleb Kotewa, Dickson Mounds Museum Technician and Educator, to brainstorm possibilities and consult in areas where help is needed. If you are interested in trail design, trail infrastructure, erosion control, invasive removals, outdoor education, interpretation, and volunteering, this hike is for you. Subject matter that materializes from this hike will be accomplished during later events in the season.

We will meet at 8:45 a.m. at the front of the museum where participants can use the restrooms in the foyer and fill up their water containers before heading out. We will hike the outer loop of the trails for a 2 mile hike. There are a couple of key places we will stop along the hike to break and discuss what we have recently passed. Discussing the trail in segments will create an in-depth critique. We will finish hiking somewhere around 11 a.m. and depending on group size we can picnic in front of the museum or at picnic hill and discuss the trails in their entirety.

Be prepared

  • Insect repellent
  • Sunscreen
  • Dress for the weather
  • Sturdy water proof shoes or shoes you don't mind getting wet or muddy
  • Bring your lunch and we will picnic after the hike
