Notes on the Event Schedule Change

With severe weather forecast for Kewanee tonight, we are postponing Legacy and Law: Navigating Farm Succession out of caution for everyone’s safety. We are coordinating with the presenters to set a new date and will follow up once details are finalized.

Planning for the future of your farm is essential to protecting your family, your land, and your legacy. Understanding how succession works—and the pitfalls to avoid—can make a meaningful difference when transitioning your farm to the next generation.

University of Illinois Extension and the Henry County Farm Bureau are partnering to offer a seminar that helps farm families gain clarity on succession planning and the legal aspects of farm transition. This program will highlight strategies to safeguard your farm’s future and ensure a smooth handoff across generations.

  • Meagan Diss, Commercial Ag Specialist with University of Illinois Extension, will share practical insights, tips, and resources to support farm families in planning for the future.
  • Local attorneys Chris Massie, Mike Massie, and Ethen Hunt of Massie & Quick LLC who focus on farm succession planning, will be available to offer guidance and answer questions.

The program will take place at Cerno's Bar and Grill in Kewanee and includes a complimentary taco bar. There is no fee to attend, but pre-registration is required (call, email, or sign-up online). Support for this program is provided, in part, by Gold Star FS, River Valley Cooperative, and CHS.
