The heart of the Illinois 4-H program beats strong through the dedication of its more than 6,000 volunteers, who play vital roles as mentors and leaders in shaping the future of the youth. Each year, the Illinois 4-H Foundation spotlights longstanding volunteers for their unwavering commitment to the University of Illinois Extension 4-H youth development program. This year the Illinois 4-H Foundation proudly inducts Steve Ausmus representing Mercer County, and Lynne Schroeder representing Rock Island County, into the esteemed 4-H Hall of Fame, recognizing their exceptional commitment to shaping the leaders of tomorrow.
Jennifer Peterson, 4-H educator serving the unit said, "The strength of our program rests upon the shoulders of our volunteers, who generously contribute their time and expertise to nurture 4-H youth members. We are pleased to recognize the outstanding contributions of these remarkable individuals."

Steve Ausmus - Mercer County Passionately dedicated to advancing youth education in the goat industry, Steve Ausmus's influence reaches far beyond his decade-long service to Mercer County 4-H. Steve's expertise shines as he prepares members for the show ring and leads the thriving Goat Spin Club in Unit 7. His commitment extends to diverse domains, including the 4-H Poultry show, 4-H Dairy show, and the annual Mercer County Farm in the Park event, where he provides a popular petting zoo. A true 4-H champion, Steve champions the Mercer County 4-H BBQ fundraiser annually. His immeasurable contributions to countless 4-H events shape Mercer County's youth and its community. When asked about his motivation for volunteering, Steve humbly shared, "4-H is a legacy in my family, and the impact I make on young lives fuels my dedication."
Lynne Schroeder - Rock Island County Lynne Schroeder exemplifies the legacy and spirit of Illinois 4-H. As leader of the Rural True Blues 4-H club since 2007, Lynne's unwavering commitment has enriched one of Rock Island County's oldest clubs. With a diverse background spanning food and nutrition, clothing and textiles, communication, and more, Lynne imparts crucial life skills through her mentorship. She inspires members to craft unique fair entries. She also provides opportunities at the county level for all the members of Rock Island to learn. She recently hosted a sewing workshop and grew the Clothing and Textile program by 15 new members! Lynne is a beacon of guidance, ensuring Rock Island's 4-H legacy evolves under her nurturing guidance.

Illinois Extension leads public outreach for University of Illinois by translating research into action plans that allow Illinois families, businesses, and community leaders to solve problems, make informed decisions, and adapt to changes and opportunities.
