LEWISTOWN, Ill. - The public is invited to learn more about Conservation@Home membership, yard certification, and to check out the new native landscaping demonstration site on Tuesday, July 18, 5:30-7:30pm at the Fulton County Farm Bureau, 15411 N IL 100 Hwy, Lewistown.
Conservation@Home kicked off in West Central Illinois by way of the University of Illinois Extension, serving Fulton, Mason, Peoria, and Tazewell counties, and the Fulton County Farm Bureau in April. The Fulton County Farm Bureau removed shrubs, rock, and prepped the bedding areas around the building for planting in May. With the help of University of Illinois Extension Master Gardeners, Master Naturalists, staff and FCFB volunteers, nearly 200 native plants were planted.
The Conservation@Home program is all about creating more eco-friendly yards!
The “typical” yard can easily be improved to help reduce water run-off, increase wildlife habitat, and improve the soil. The benefits of improving the environment are many including reducing your water use, creating more area for birds and butterflies, reducing chemical use, less lawn mowing, and learning about invasive species that may need to be controlled in your yard. During the July 18 meeting, University of Illinois Extension, Horticulture Educator, Nicole Flowers-Kimmerle will present on Native Landscaping.
Contact the U of I Extension, Fulton County Branch Office at 309-547-3711 to learn how you can bring Conservation@Home to your property.
If you need a reasonable accommodation to participate, please contact U of I Extension, Fulton County branch office at 309-547-3711.
