4-H Green Communities Project

4-H Green Communities Tree Planting Project in partnership with Kendall County Soil and Water Conservation District
Did you know that Illinois once was home to 14 million acres of trees, but that number has dropped to 5 million due to modern development practices? Illinois 4-H has partnered with Illinois Soil and Water Conservation Districts to help turn the tide by planting oak trees in dozens of counties across Illinois this spring and we need YOUR help!

We will be planting fire-resistant, native oak species in public spaces where the community can enjoy the benefits. These 25-tree savannas will help rebuild our native ecosystems, 3/4 of an acre at a time. Plus:
  • Add trees to a local park
  • Help the environment and your community
  • Gain service hours for your school and/or a state activity for 4-H records
  • Build a legacy for future generations to enjoy

4-H families and community members are invited to join us:
  • 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, April 12 (Rain date April 19)
  • Oswegoland Park District, Saw Wee Kee Park, 7350 Sundown Lane, Yorkville

Please register as a family. A few important notes:
  • An adult/parent/guardian will need to be present for 4-H youth participants under age 16.
    • (Please note: 4-H event insurance is not applicable for anyone under the age of 5.)

What to bring:
  • Feel free to bring tools, especially shovels
  • You also may want to bring water to drink. Snacks will be provided.
  • Please wear close-toed shoes and dress appropriately for the weather and for getting dirty!
  • In case of inclement weather, any changes would be emailed prior to the event.
