Become a University of Illinois Extension Master Gardener in 2020 - Training Starts January 24 in Milan, IL

Share your passion for the environment as a University of Illinois Extension Master Gardener with in-person training starting in January. In-person Master Gardener Training will be held at Rock Island County Extension in Milan, IL.  Horticulture educators from University of Illinois Extension will lead the trainings that will be held on Fridays, from 9 am - 3:30 pm, January 24 - April 17th. Over 11 weeks you'll explore botany, landscaping, soils, fertilizer and composting, trees, shrubs and woody vines, insects, diseases, lawns, small fruits and tree fruits, vegetables and nuts, organic gardening, living with wildlife, annuals and perennials and integrated pest management.

Once your training is complete, you'll work with a Master Gardener mentor and other volunteers on a variety of community horticulture education projects.  The tuition is $250 and includes a comprehensive horticulture textbook. You will receive a $50 refund once your internship is completed for a $200 cost to become initially certified. A scholarship is available to cover the training for one chosen applicant. It is provided by the Rock Island County Extension & 4-H Education Foundation and can be found on the online registration.
