Why are Eggs Important?
Procedure
Divide student into groups of four to research one of the topics listed below. Each group will give an oral presentation to the class on the assigned day.
Importance in Diet
- Nutrition for you and developing chick
- Excellent source of protein, iron and phosphorous
- Yolk-rich source of Vitamin A, D and B (little or no C)
Importance in Baking and Cooking
- Used for taste, color and nutritional value
- Used in many foods (cakes, donuts, egg noodles)
Importance in Agriculture and Farming
- Used for fertilizers and animal feed
- Egg farming-mainly in the midwest
Importance from Biological Standpoint
- Eggs of amphibians (frog) and fish (bass)-soft and jelly- like; must be laid in water
- Eggs of reptiles (lizards) and birds (chickens) have hard shells, can be laid on land
