Join University of Illinois Extension for a two-part series to help you be prepared in the event of an emergency. Attendees will have the opportunity to win some door prizes of essential items for personal disaster kits. Sessions topics include:

Emergency Food Supply | February 2 | 6 - 7 pm Having an emergency supply of food and water on hand is important to keep you and your family fed and hydrated until help arrives. In this session, we’ll discuss which foods to include and techniques to extend shelf-life of food. Food safety measures such as temperature control, sanitation, and shelf-life will be highlighted with special considerations after a power outage, flood, and fire.

Emergency Kits | February 9 | 6 - 7 pm Being prepared by having an emergency kit and a family communications plan can help alleviate some of the stress that results during such a situation In this session, you will learn about the recommended items that should be included in every basic emergency kit and how to plan for the unique needs of your family. Additionally, you will also learn how to develop a practical family communications plan that will allow you and your family to manage and maintain contact during a disaster scenario.
