SNAP Listening Sessions

The University of Illinois Extension is working with partners across the state to host a series of listening sessions focused on SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program). These conversations are part of a broader effort to understand how recent SNAP changes may be affecting people and communities in Illinois.

These sessions, supported by the Illinois Department of Human Services and the Illinois Commission to End Hunger, are bringing together community members and organizations to:

• Talk about recent SNAP changes
• Share how SNAP changes are being experienced locally
• Hear from those who work with SNAP, including nonprofits, grocers, farmers, food banks, and community organizations
• Identify ideas to help address challenges and better support Illinois families

Extension is leading the planning and facilitation of these sessions in communities across the state. What we are hearing is being gathered into a report that will be shared with state partners to help guide future decisions and responses in Illinois.

Partner Session: 

We invite you to join us for a partner sessions which are open to anyone who supports individuals or families with food access or services. We welcome your input—no SNAP expertise is required. 
An in-person session will take place July 1st, 10 am - 11:30 a.m. at  EveryChild in Rock Island.

Can’t attend in person?
You’re welcome to join a Virtual Partner session instead. This session to anyone who supports individuals or families who are eligible for SNAP. We welcome your input—no SNAP expertise is required.

We will also be offering virtual sessions specifically for community members who currently receive SNAP, have received SNAP in the past, or may be eligible.
