Guidance for local governments on OMA compliance

URBANA, Ill. – Local officials are challenged to get things done while staying compliant with current social distancing recommendations and the Open Meetings Act, which has been amended temporarily by Governor Pritzker’s executive order. Christopher Boggs, supervising attorney at the Illinois Office of the Attorney General, will provide information and strategies to avoid violations, as well as an update on the Open Meetings Act considering recent COVID-19 mandates as part of University of Illinois Extension's Local Government Education webinar series.

Boggs has served the Public Access Bureau in the Office of the Illinois Attorney General since September 2012. Prior, he served as a post-doctoral legal fellow in the Office of University Counsel, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Boggs clerked for Illinois House Speaker Michael Madigan’s Office of Special Counsel, The Honorable Joe Billy McDade of the Central District of Illinois, and U.S. Sen. Barack Obama. He received his juris doctorate, cum laude, and bachelor’s degree in Political Science from U of I.
