Join the Grow a Row Campaign: Help Us Double Our Impact!

""

Moline, Illinois — Floreciente Community Garden, the Palomares Social Justice Center, and University of Illinois Extension are excited to announce the launch of this year’s Grow a Row campaign, building on last year’s incredible success where over 1,500 lbs. of produce were grown and distributed to local families. This season, with the help of community partners and volunteers, the goal is to double  impact by providing 3,000 lbs. of fresh, locally grown produce to 300 families.

The Grow a Row campaign is an initiative that encourages local gardeners and volunteers to either dedicate a row of their garden to grow produce for donation or donate excess harvested produce. Whether you are an experienced gardener or a newcomer eager to contribute, every donation counts towards reaching our goal.

Every contribution makes a difference in our community, providing healthy food options to those in need while fostering a sense of community and environmental stewardship. The donated produce will be provided at no cost to individuals and families every Sunday in coordination with Palomares Social Justice Center’s community meal at St. John’s Lutheran Church from 4- 6pm. Information will be provided once the produce distributions begin with two drop-off locations: St John’s Lutheran Church in Rock Island and the Illinois Extension office in Milan.

Anyone interested in donating produce can sign up at this link: go.illinois.edu/growarow

Located in the heart of the Floreciente Neighborhood, the Floreciente Community Garden is dedicated to cultivating not only plants but strong community ties. Through gardening, we provide fresh produce to local families and create a green space for all to enjoy.

"The community garden has grown beautiful flowers, fruits, and vegetables to share with other, but most importantly the garden efforts themselves have sowed seeds of belongingness and community in and of itself, “ says Sam Wright, Director of Palomas Social Justice Center/ Coordinator of the Grow a Row campaign, "Join us as we grow together!"
