During the 10thWorld Congress of Genetics Applied to Livestock Production, Dr. BrianKinghorn of the University of New England gave a presentation on Mondayabout the potential impact genomic information could have on genetic change.

The presentation addressed 4 major questions about what genomic information can reveal.

1. To what extent does nuclear DNA dictate genetic merit of the host individual?
2. To what extent does nuclear DNA dictate transmissible genetic merit of the host individual?
3. To what extent can genomic information inform us about the genetic merit of the host individual?
4. To what extent can genomic information inform us about the transmissible genetic merit of the host individual?

In addition to these four questions, Kinghorn talked about whether or not the ideal genotype could be predicted.
