Saying Thanks to Kickapoo Krew

A potluck to show appreciation for "Kickapoo Krew" volunteers at the High Pond Shelter at Kickapoo State Park is scheduled for Saturday, July 16. Volunteers will meet at the High Pond Prairie Garden at 10 a.m. and a potluck meal will begin at 10:30.

Barbecue, buns and a condiment tray will be provided. Bring a side dish if you wish.

After lunch, U of I Extension horticultural educator Sandy Mason will lead a tour of the accessible trail to identify native and alien invasive plants.

The event is hosted by Gay and Jim Cullum. Gay is Kickapoo Krew leader and president of the East Central Illinois Master Naturalists Advisory Board.

"Everyone who has been involved in any way with Kickapoo Krew, whether sawing down invasives, dragging limbs and branches to the chipper, pruning limbs, collecting and/or cleaning prairie seeds, watering prairie plants, growing seedlings and so much more, is invited to attend the appreciation festivity," Gay said.

Kickapoo State Park is about a mile north and two miles east of the Oakwood Exit on Interstate I-74.
