4-H helps youth find their spark!  Join Illinois’ largest out-of-school youth organization, where kids and teens learn by doing with fun, hands-on activities that teach skills for successful living.  We can’t wait for you to join and become part of our 4-H family!

Illinois 4-H is part of University of Illinois Extension. Our unit serves the counties of Henry, Mercer, Rock Island and Stark. You can join one of our many community clubs and be part of our 4-H family!

Attend our 4-H Kickoff Event Oct 1 at Niabi Zoo

Learn more about 4-H at a special event on Saturday, October 1st at Niabi Zoo in Coal Valley. You and your family will enjoy a fun morning at the zoo while you learn about 4-H and how to join!

4-H activities run from 10 am –noon, followed by time to explore the zoowith your family as you complete a zoo scavenger hunt.

  • Hear from current 4-H members about the program
  • See demonstrations of 4-H projects and displays
  • Explore hands-on activity stations
  • Get free snacks and some cool 4-H swag
  • Learn fascinating facts about animals from Niabi Zoo educators presenting: "Where the Wild Things Are" & "Animal Superpowers".

4-H activities are free with your prepaid zoo admission which is: $9 adults and youth 13 and older, $6.50 youth 3 – 13. (Zoo members can use their cards for free admission.) You'll pay your zoo admission upon registering for the event.

I Made That October Kit Pumped for Pumpkins

Illinois Extension and 4-H offers at-home educational cooking and activities kits to help youth and teens build their skills in the kitchen. The October kit is designed to get youth pumped for National Pumpkin Month. They will learn all about pumpkins, and how to select, store, and carve them. Try one of the many recipes included in the kit such as pumpkin bread, pie, pancakes, roasted seeds, and pumpkin sandwiches. Each kit is $5 and includes:

  • October "I Made That!" booklet
  • Selection, storage, and carving tips
  • Pumpkin recipes and exploration
  • Select ingredients for your recipes
  • Pumpkin activities
  • Sensory evaluation
