The Christian County Stockman Awards were presented at the Christian County 4-H Foundation Auction held July 28 at the Christian County Fairgrounds. This was the second Del Adcock, member of the Blue Ribbon 4-H Club, won the Senior Grand Stockman. Alec Myers, of the Edinburg Warriors 4-H Club, was Reserve Senior Stockman, Cole Paulek, of the Old Stonington 4-H Club was Junior Grand Stockman, and Waylon Paulek, of the Old Stonington 4-H Club was Reserve Junior Stockman.

When asked why the Stockman Award was established, Alicia Gullidge, 4-H Program Coordinator for Christian County, said, “As a kid, I was in 4-H for 11 years and showed sheep for 8 of them. It was my favorite 4-H project. I grew up in the show ring, and working with livestock is near and dear to my heart. I personally know that it takes a lot of responsibility and dedication to get livestock ready for the fair. We just wanted to recognize this hard work, and to encourage their efforts in the future.” Del Adcock, who was also named Sr. Grand Stockman last year said, “One of the reasons I wanted to come back for my final Beef Show in 4-H was to take another shot at earning the Stockman Award. I wanted to challenge myself and see if I could do it again.”

Competition among all of the participants was very close this year. The recipients of the “Stockman” awards are determined by compiling scores in three different areas of participation; the livestock Skill-a-thon test, the livestock show placings, and the placing in the showmanship class. All three scores are totaled with the highest overall score awarded Grand Stockman. The competition includes both a senior and junior division, as well as reserve winners for each division. Each champion award winner received a trophy donated by Jenner Ag of Taylorville, IL.
