A Harvest of Horticulture: Fall Gardening Workshops

University of Illinois Extension and the Mercer County Master Gardeners and Master Naturalists have planned their annual fall harvest of horticulture event. They've invited regional experts to share their knowledge on a variety of topics. The workshops will take place at the Aledo Fire Station located at 211 SE 3rd Street in Aledo, Ill. Doors open at 8:30 am, with coffee and pastries. Program start at 9:00 am. The cost is $10 in advance/ $12 at the door
Here are the featured speakers and presentations:
- Canning: Best of Yesterday & Today Canning is an old process with new interest! Are you thinking about canning but scared to make a commitment of equipment, time, and spices? Carol Longley and Lori Bruning will explore how to get started in canning. They will share labor saving and time budgeting ideas, creative uses of canning and Christmas gift ideas. A good presentation for both experienced and those new to canning.
- Fall Gardening: Preparing for Next Season, Chris Enroth, Illinois Extension horticulture educator will deliver timely tips on what
you can do to get your lawns, landscaping and vegetable beds ready for spring!
- All Things Trees, Join Kevin Bennett from Trees Forever to learn what to plant, where to plat, and how to care for your trees. His talk will focus on trees in urban environment and those beneficial to pollinators.
