University of Illinois Extension invites the public to a Field Day on Thursday, September 6 from 10 am - noon at the Brian Corkill Farm, 22804 Walter Payton Memorial Hwy, Galva, IL to watch an aerial drone and robot cover crop seeding. Led by Dennis Bowman, Illinois Extension Specialist- Digital Agriculture, he will be seeding of a field with cover crops by both drone and robot. Also as part of the day, host farmer, Brian Corkill, will share his knowledge of soil health principles and discuss his challenges and successes in planting cover crops. In addition, Rachel Curry, Illinois Extension AGRI and Agribusiness Educator, will share insights into the role of cover crops in nutrient loss and in the Illinois Nutrient Loss Reduction Strategy. Representatives from Precision Conservation Management will also highlight some of the programs they offer to help offset cover crop input costs.
