University of Illinois Extension, Fulton-Mason-Peoria-Tazewell Unit staff worked to facilitate University of Illinois Urbana Champaign School of Architecture’s engagement with City of Peoria and community leaders during two separate semester-long courses. During the Spring 2017 semester, graduate students Michael Osterloo and Drew Nuding completed a research study overseen by Professor Lynne Dearborn.
UIUC School of Architecture planning study, during Spring 2017 was designed to comprehend, summarize, and catalyze the region's growing interest in improving their local food system, specifically within the Peoria's South Side neighborhood, through economic strategies targeted at supporting a healthy community.
Healthy Neighborhood Revitalization Strategy provides a focus on improving mental and physical health for the Near North East Bluff Neighborhood in the city of Peoria. The study looked at effects that neighborhood quality,housing quality, housing affordability, social capital and green space have on mental and physical health.
