2014 County Yields Released by the National Ag Statistics Service

The National Ag Statistics Office has released 2014 corn and soybean yields by county on February 19. The state average corn yield was 200 bushels per acre, compared to the 178 bushel average of the 2013 season. Logan County averaged 230.8 bushels per acre and Sangamon County averaged 226.8. Menard County had an average yield of 222.7.

Top corn yield counties were Macon with 236 bushels per acre average, Piatt yielding 235.2, Logan 230.8, Sangamon 226.8, and Tazewell with 224.4. McLean had the top county production for corn with 70,408,000 bushels for the county. Production in Logan County was 46,156,000 from 200,000 acres, Menard had 18,240 bushels from 81,900 acres, and Sangamon had 51,138,000 bushels on 225,500 acres harvested.

The Logan County yield represents a record yield, surpassing the previous record of 198.1 set in 2013. The Sangamon County yield also blew by the former record yield of 199 set in 2007. Menard also represents a new record. The new 10 year average yields are 174.25 for Logan and 179.15 for Sangamon. Menard County won't have a history for a while, as they didn't have enough respondents to last year's survey. This led to Menard County yields being combined with other counties with a similar situation.

The state soybean average yield was 56 bushels to the acre, compared to the 2013 state average of 49. Top counties were Piatt at 69.2, Macon yielding 67.4 bushels per acre, Champaign at 63.9, Logan with 63.7, and Moultrie with 63.6. This establishes a new Logan County record yield, passing the 57.6 established in 2010, while the Sangamon County record yield of 63.3 passes the 60.4 set also in 2010. The Menard County yield is also a record with 60.2 bushels per acre. Logan County production was 8,682,000 bushels on 136,300 acres. Sangamon County had production of 9.699,000 on 153,300 acres. McLean County again led the state in production with 18,603,000 bushels. The new 10 year average yield for soybeans is 53.56 in Logan County and 55.25 in Sangamon County.
