2016 County Crop Yields Released

The National Ag Statistics Office has released 2016 corn and soybean yields by county on February 23. The state average corn yield was 197 bushels per acre, compared to the 175 bushel per acre average of the 2015 season. The 2016 yield averages were Logan with 219.4 bushels per acre, Menard with 209.3, and Sangamon with 222.1. By comparison, last year Logan County averaged 172.8, Menard 188.2, and Sangamon 183.5. Record yields are the 2014 yields of 230.8 bushels per acre for Logan, Menard County with 222.7, and Sangamon County averaged 226.8. Top corn yield counties were Tazewell with 236, Woodford at 232.8, Carroll averaging 231.9, Warren at 229.2, and Ogle averaging 225.9. McLean had the top county production for corn with 70,340,000 bushels for the county. Production in Logan County was 43,723,000, Menard had 17,062,000 bushels, and Sangamon had 50,967,000 bushels produced.

The new 10 year average yields are 181.97 for Logan and 185.41 for Sangamon. Menard County won't have a history for a while, as they didn't have enough respondents to the 2013 survey. This led to Menard County yields being combined with other counties with a similar situation.

The state soybean average yield was 59 bushels to the acre, exceeding the 2015 average of 56. Top counties were Piatt at 71.3, Carroll with 69, Moultrie at 68.5, Macon averaging 68.2, and Champaign at 67.7. Logan County established a new record with an average yield of 66.6, compared to last year's 56.6. Menard County set a new record with 63.6 bushels per acre average, with a 2015 60 bushel average. The Sangamon County yield also set a new high at 66.2 bushels per acre, and the prior year averaged 60.7. Logan County production was 9,156,000 bushels, Sangamon County had production of 9,472,000, and Menard had 3,910,000 bushels produced. McLean County again led the state in production with 18,950,000 bushels. The new 10 year average yield for soybeans is 55.38 in Logan County and 57.24 in Sangamon County.
