The Affordable Healthcare Act: What does it mean for Women's Health…..?

You had to be living under a rock to not have heard all the buzz about the Affordable Care Act and the push for people to sign up before the deadline.

While there are many people who are for and against this new healthcare initiative… one thing we can possibly all agree on is that it will help more people, women in particular, receive healthcare and address those individual unique healthcare needs.

What does the Affordable Care Act mean for women and their reproductive health???

Here are a few statistics:

  • Coverage for many preventive services for women including mammograms will be at no cost.

  • Coverage for well women visits (doctor's visits) will also be at no cost.

  • Birth control contraceptives that are FDA approved will also be at no cost.

  • Breastfeeding will be supported for moms who choose to go back to work with equipment to make breastfeeding successful for working moms.

  • Women who are ready and choose to stop smoking will have support for them at no cost.

Most importantly, the Affordable Care Act gives women the prevention and wellness service they will otherwise may not have access to if they were unemployed. It also provides them with more control over their individual care.

Are you a woman or know of a woman who is currently out of healthcare? Are you or know of a woman who has not had a mammogram? Pap smear?
