What happens to the ground underneath solar panels? Explore emerging information around solar development and soil health, and leave with practical tools and site design strategies. Learn from renewable energy researchers and practitioners about the connections between solar development and soil health.

Upcoming Presentations

This webinar is the first in a three-part series addressing questions and concerns from local governments about navigating solar development.

  • Oct. 27: Agrivoltaics

  • Nov. 10: Wildlife Interactions with Solar

Presenters

  • Val Stori, Great Plains Institute senior policy manager. Topics: Site design strategies and best practices for supporting soil health and conservation throughout solar development.

  • Michael P. Ricketts, Argonne National Lab assistant terrestrial ecologist. Topics: Findings from the Solar Soil project, what research tells us about the impact of solar energy on soil health, and approaches for maintaining healthy soil.

About the Resilient Communities Webinar Series

Resilient Communities presentations are a result of University of Illinois Extension and Prairie Rivers Network’s collaboration to build capacity for technical assistance and education aimed to help communities navigate energy- and environment-related funding opportunities, provide guidance on community inclusion, and lead community-specific strategic planning. This outreach can help communities secure and manage resources to address legacy pollution, invest in clean energy technologies, and more. This program is offered as part of the community and economic development team’s Local Government Education series in partnership with the natural resources, environment, and energy team.
