Join the University of Illinois Extension for the 3rd Annual Winter Wellness Family Event at Watch Tower Lodge in Rock Island, IL, on Saturday, February 17, from 10 am – 1 pm. Presented in collaboration with Black Hawk State Historic Site, this event invites you to explore health and wellness in mind, body, and spirit during the winter months.
This year's focus is on lessons from the Blue Zones—regions known for longevity and well-being. Emphasizing diets rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and legumes, the Blue Zones' principles contribute to overall health. Attendees will have the opportunity to create their own flavorful "Blue Zone Bowl" and warm up with a selection of hot tea and hot chocolate. Pick up Blue Zone lessons from Illinois Extension and grab a free 2024 Eat.Move.Save recipe calendar from SNAP-Ed.
UnityPoint Health nurses will be on-site offering diabetes assessments, blood pressure screenings, health resources, class information, giveaways, and more, encouraging proactive health measures during "heart-health" month.
Experience the sense of community present in Blue Zones by engaging in hands-on crafts and enjoying classical guitar music performed by Jeffrey Davies. Interactive stations offer insights on reducing food waste, creating eco-friendly cleaning products, and adopting heart-healthy practices. Visit various activity stations for a chance to win a “Blue Zone Bowl” meal kit to take home.
Kids will enjoy activities by 4-H and AOK Childhood Network, along with an indoor obstacle course. Capture your memories at the selfie station, and explore history at the Hauberg Museum inside the Lodge to learn about Sauk and Meskwaki (Fox) Indians.
Don't miss this chance to explore and engage in activities that promote a healthier lifestyle. Admission is free, offering a day of family-friendly, educational, and fun-filled experiences. Support for this program is provided, in part, by the Rock Island County Extension & 4-H Education Foundation.
