Herbert Chavez is a media communications coordinator on the Illinois Extension marketing and communications team. In this role, he provides essential marketing support to various programs, including Family and Consumer Sciences, Integrated Health Disparities, and Community and Economic Development. Herbert’s multifaceted responsibilities encompass social media management, writing, copy editing, graphic design, project management, website content, and video editing.

Herbert’s journey began as a community worker with Illinois Extension in Champaign County. He then transitioned into the position of marketing and communications coordinator. Later, he seized an opportunity to work as a marketing and communications specialist at the University of Illinois Technology Services. In this capacity, he made strategic decisions to enhance the organization’s visibility, selected effective marketing tools, and crafted compelling materials to promote products and services. 

His expertise extended to developing strategic plans tailored to specific programs and target audiences. Herbert adeptly managed online marketing channels, including web, email, newsletters, and social media. Additionally, he played a pivotal role in creating engaging videos and packaging learning materials for the University of Illinois community.

Before joining the Illinois Extension, Herbert honed his broadcasting skills while living in his home country. He was a marketing manager for a television network for over a decade. During this period, he produced captivating content for various television programs, achieved impressive ratings, and devised effective advertising strategies that benefited both his company and advertisers.
