The first Illinois Green Office Challenge was a great success for the Greater Peoria Region! The Illinois Green Office Challenge is program patterned after the Chicago Green Office Challenge that encourages friendly competition amongst office buildings to achieve energy and water conservation and waste reduction. It aims to make Illinois more livable, sustainable, and prosperous.

The Illinois Green Office Challenge focused on our region during the past year, with plans to expand across the entire state in future years. Training and program support was provided by University of Illinois Sustainable Technology Center Prairie Research Institute. Local sponsors include Peoria County Office of Sustainability, EDC for Central Illinois, and University of Illinois Extension.

33 PARTICIPANTS Completed 274 SUSTAINABLE ACTIVITIES!

  • Dewberry – Completed 8 activities in the Energy category including "Conduct a Lighting and Lighting Controls Audit" and "Retrofit Lighting and Lighting Controls". They also conducted a Pre-Challenge Plug Load Survey and wrote a Power Down Policy.
  • U of I Extension Peoria Office – Tracked their energy usage using Energy Star Portfolio Manager.
  • Peoria Charter Plaza – Was and early leader in the challenge and completed 30 activities including, "Track Energy Usage", "Retrofit Lighting", "Conduct a Commuter Survey", and "Expand Recycling Program".
  • Caterpillar-Mossville – Focused on Water activities by educating building occupants about water management. The also assessed their water management baseline.
  • Peoria County Courthouse – Completed 24 activities, focusing on Outreach & Education, Writing a Sustainability Plan, and Tracking Energy and Water Usage.
