Despite droughty conditions much of the growing season, the pumpkin crop looks plentiful. Apple harvest is in the ‘Golden Delicious’ window, including ‘Pixie Crunch’ into ‘Braeburn’. Though in the tail end, tomatoes are still in harvest. Fall activities like corn mazes, pumpkin walks and hayrides ramped up roughly the third weekend in September and will be in full swing starting the first weekend in October, running through Halloween.
The last day of summer and first two days of fall brought much needed rain to the I-70 corridor, but just left a teasing rain to the southern St Louis Metro region. To the north, rainfall totals were upwards of 2.5 inches, whereas southern St Clair and Monroe Counties reported only a tenth of an inch or less over the same period. Temperatures have come down significantly with the passing of the front, yet humidity levels remain high.
