From St. Louis Metro East: Adding pizzazz to your produce display

stalks of brussels sprouts laying out on display at a market

Whoever thought up harvesting the entire stalk of Brussels sprouts may be on to something.  Not only does it show consumers how brussels sprouts grow on the stem, it adds an interesting stacking texture to a display that draws interest.

Locally, the St Louis Metro East has experienced a hard freeze, so most field operations have come to a close for the season, though many markets are still open with crops like greens, sweet potatoes and other fall vegetables and any remaining apple crop.

Like reported last month, much of the St Louis Metro East according to the U.S. Drought Monitor continues to experience abnormally dry to moderate drought conditions. Much of the region received at least a half an inch of rain in the week before Thanksgiving, but more is definitely needed to alleviate the drought status.  Most trees have dropped their leaves, leaving trees like oaks that hold on to their leaves to stand out in the landscape.
