Nathan Johanning has been selected as the new Extension Specialist - Commercial Agriculture in Specialty Crops and will begin his new role on July 1. Nathan will be filling the position held by Elizabeth Wahle prior to her retirement. He is a 13-year veteran of Illinois Extension, where he has served as a Commercial Agriculture Educator in Madison, Monroe and St. Clair Counties for the past seven years and began his career as a Local Foods/Small Farms Educator in Franklin/Jackson/ Perry/ Randolph and Williamson Counties.
He has extensive experience in pumpkin production, no-till/cover cropping production systems, integrated pest management, and weed management. He is also well versed in small fruit and vegetable production, on-farm research trials, and practical applied horticultural techniques.
Nathan has been a trusted resource for many growers across Illinois and throughout the Midwest and this Extension Specialist position will allow him to continue and focus his work with the specialty crops industry. Reach out to Nathan and congratulate him in his new role!
