Woodford County Master Gardener's Plant Sale

"It is time again for the Woodford County Master Gardener Plant Sale at the Eureka Library-May 16 from 8 a.m. to Noon. Stock up this spring with garden favorites like perennials, grasses, annuals, some vegetables, herbs and oddities from the garden," states University of Illinois Horticulture Educator, Kelly Allsup. Then take time to visit with the Master Gardeners to ask them questions about gardening, plants, trees and insects while letting them solve all your gardening woes.

All monies raised through the plant sale will be used for Woodford County Master Gardener efforts: expanding the herb garden at the Eureka Courthouse; contributing to youth educational efforts; and participating in educational booths.

April 25 was the last frost free date for Zone 5b giving gardeners full permission to start planting tender vegetable transplants and seeds. If you are unsure how to start a vegetable garden or just want to come by to pick up some new tips, please come by the plant sale to learn more about all things garden.

Watch for the upcoming Tree Walk hosted by University of Illinois at Illinois Central College on May 22 at 1:30 p.m. Horticulture Educator, Kari Houle, will focus on tree identification, ornamental characteristics and some tree issues while exploring the beautiful campus of ICC. Handouts will be provided and a $5 fee will be charged. Please visit the University of Illinois Extension website to register. Other tree walks will take place at Illinois State University Fell Arboretum, Illinois Wesleyan University Campus, Illinois State University Horticulture Center and Eureka College. This
is a part of an ongoing commitment from University of Illinois Extension to learn more about trees and their care.
