University of Illinois Extension Master Gardener volunteers will offer "Evening in the Garden" on Thursday, July 21, from 5:30 – 7 pm. This event will showcase Master Gardener demonstration garden projects including Small Fruits, Perennial, Herb, Idea and Compost. Volunteers will be on hand to answer questions on the wide variety of annuals, herbs, perennials, and fruits in their 5,000 square foot garden.
Features of the gardens include: The Herb Garden has more than 70 kitchen herbs; The Lorraine DeSouza Perennial Garden contains perennials and prairie plants of interest for every season; The Idea garden showcases creative annual plantings; the Compost demonstration area contains 5 different compost bins; and other features of the garden include a grape arbor.
Participants are invited to tour the gardens located on the Illinois State Fairgrounds, along 8th street in front of building #30, and 700 S. Airport Drive, Springfield, IL.
In addition to garden tours, at 5:30 pm, a hummingbird presentation will be offered.
