Enjoy the first harvest of the season at The Refuge Food Forest!

Red and white currants are one of the first ripe berry crops in Central Illinois - berries mature midJune. A blend of sweet and tart flavors, this selection of currants is perfect as a fresh topping to ice cream or showcased in jelly or jam.

Enjoy berries fresh from the plant while listening to their history of cultivation.

Nick Frillman, University of Illinois Extension Local Foods and Small Farms Educator will share historical knowledge and proper management practices during a seasonal harvest at The Refuge Food Forest.

A moderate sized shrub (3 - 5 feet) preferring light shade, red and white currants may make a perfect addition to your home landscape. Ask Nick how to receive a red or white shrub of your own.

Rain Date: June 29, 5:30 - 7:00 PM
