The course is aimed at fruit and vegetable growers and others interested in learning about produce safety, the Food Safety Modernization Act Produce Safety Rule, Good Agricultural Practices, and co-management of natural resources and food safety. This free online training will provide compliance with Subpart C 112.22 (c) of the FSMA Produce Safety Rule and is valid indefinitely.
The PSA Grower Training includes seven modules:
- Introduction to Produce Safety Rule.
- Worker health, hygiene, and training.
- Soil amendments.
- Wildlife, domestic animals, and land use.
- Agricultural water.
- Post-harvest handling and sanitation.
- Learn to develop an agricultural food security plan.
Course participants will learn basic knowledge about:
- Microorganisms relevant to produce safety and where they can be found on the farm.
- Identify microbial hazards, practices that reduce risks, and how to begin implementing produce safety practices on the farm.
- Parts of a farm food safety plan and how to start writing one.
- Requirements of the FSMA Produce Safety Rule and how to comply with them.
Dates:
- November 7: 9:00 a.m. - 2:15 p.m.
- November 8: 10:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.
Participants must be present for all course modules to receive the PSA/AFDO course completion certificate, and attendance and commitment will be monitored throughout the distance learning course.
A $25 refundable deposit is required to cover the manual cost, refunded upon successful completion on November 8.
