Transcript
Good morning, this is your Wellness Wake Up Call with University of Illinois Extension.
Did you know your eyes can distinguish millions of colors? Or that the muscles controlling your eyes are among the busiest in your body, making thousands of movements every single day? From reading a favorite book to recognizing a familiar face, our eyes work tirelessly to help us experience the world around us.
As we age, however, our vision naturally changes. Conditions like cataracts, glaucoma, and age-related macular degeneration become more common, making it even more important to take steps to protect our eye health.
The good news is that many healthy habits that benefit your heart and brain also support your eyes. Eating a balanced diet, staying physically active, managing chronic conditions like diabetes and high blood pressure, protecting your eyes from the sun, and scheduling regular eye exams can all help preserve your vision.
Think of your eyesight as something worth investing in every day, not just when problems arise. Small choices can make a big difference over time.
Throughout August, we'll share simple ways to care for your eyes, from eating foods that support healthy vision and protecting children's eyesight to scheduling regular eye exams and reducing digital eye strain.
This week, take a moment to appreciate your amazing eyes and choose one simple habit to help protect your vision for years to come.
Thank you for listening! I hope you have a happy and healthy day ahead. This has been Kristin Bogdonas, Food and Nutrition Educator, with University of Illinois Extension.
