Illinois Nutrient Loss Reduction Strategy Report

February 10 | 1 PM CST

The Illinois Nutrient Loss Reduction Strategy (NLRS) guides the state's efforts to improve water quality at home and downstream by reducing nitrogen and phosphorus levels in our lakes, rivers, and streams. NLRS lays out a comprehensive suite of best management practices for reducing nutrient losses from wastewater treatment plants and urban and agricultural runoff. Discover how stakeholder partner efforts in Illinois have progressed and how you can play a part in improving the quality of your local waterways. This webinar will provide a briefing of the 2021 NLRS Biennial Report, highlighting Extension activities that engage individuals and groups. Presenters: C. Eliana Brown, Layne Knoche, Rachel Curry, Jennifer Jones.

If you need a reasonable accommodation to participate, please contact Erin Garrett at emedvecz@illinois.edu. Early requests are strongly encouraged to allow sufficient time to meet access needs.

Return of Large Predators

March 10 | 1 PM CST

There are many reasons, scientific and unknown, why we are seeing the occasional apex predator in Illinois. The black bear, timber wolf, and cougar have all made cameo appearances in recent months and have been doing so for more than a decade.  Except for a small percentage, Illinois habitats are currently unable to sustain complete or large populations of these large mammals. Our cultural advancements and changes have escorted these wildlife species away from what used to be their native habitat.

These animals are simply trying to adjust to changes in their current environments - which can send them our direction. Due to the sightings of cougars, wolves, and even black bears in Illinois, this program is being offered to discuss the animals themselves and the behaviors that may be playing a part in their attempts to return. If you are interested in learning more about these creatures, join Peggy Doty for Large Predators Return…Or Are They? Presenter: Peggy Doty
