Squash bug and cucurbit yellow vine decline research proposals

Recently, Iowa and Illinois have confirmed the presence of cucurbit yellow vine decline (CYVD), a disease that causes yellowing, wilting, and potential death of infected pumpkin and squash. Although it has been detected in several states, the distribution and frequency of disease is unknown across the Midwest. Additionally, the vulnerability to different cucurbit crops like watermelon, muskmelon, and cucumber is not well understood. Researchers at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, in collaboration with researchers from Indiana, Iowa, Oklahoma, and New York, are proposing to better characterize the spread and intensity of CYVD. We are looking for growers that would allow us to sample cucurbits at their farm for CYVD. If you are interested, please email Kacie Athey, kathey@illinois.edu .
