Are you preparing to take your Illinois Department of Agriculture (IDOA) pesticide licensing exams? If so, you should check to see if you have the most recent editions of the study publications. The University of Illinois Pesticide Safety Education Program (PSEP) recently revised several manuals and workbooks. IDOA creates its based exams primarily on content within PSEP manuals. The following publications were revised this fall.
General Standards Manual (SP39)

Illinois Pesticide Safety Education Manual: General Standards contains the basic-level pesticide safety content for commercial pesticide users in Illinois. The topics covered in the manual include integrated pest management, types of pesticides and their formulations, pesticide labels, human pesticide poisoning prevention, pesticides in the environment, safe handling of pesticides, pesticide application equipment and calibration, Illinois pesticide laws and regulations, and new competency standards for applicators.

The General Standards Workbook serves as a study guide used to help identify the main concepts in the Illinois Pesticide Safety Education Manual: General Standards. The workbook contains fill-in-the-blanks which can be answered using the manual or while attending General Standards training.

Bilingual General Standards Workbook (SP39-SPW)

This is the Bilingual version of the General Standards Workbook. The workbook contains English pages side-by-side with Spanish-translated pages. The workbook contains fill-in-the-blanks which can be answered using the manual or while attending General Standards training. The Bilingual workbook should be used with the Illinois Pesticide Safety Education Manual: General Standards.

Private Applicator Workbook (SP39-7W)

The Private Applicator Workbook is for farmers and other private pesticide applicators. The workbook helps to identify the main concepts in the Illinois Pesticide Safety Education Manual: Private Applicator. The workbook contains fill-in-the-blanks which can be answered using the Private Applicator Manual (SP39-7) or while attending the Private applicator training.

Seed Treatment Manual (SP39-4)

Illinois Pesticide Safety Education Manual: Seed Treatment contains content required to become a certified pesticide applicator in the seed treatment category. It covers the basic knowledge and skills required to safely, effectively, and correctly apply pesticides to seeds. The revised edition removed specific insect and disease pests and placed more emphasis on topics including the benefits and risks associated with seed treatments, seed treatment products and safe use, and seed treatment equipment and calibration.

Sewer Line Root Control Manual (SP39-16)

Illinois Pesticide Safety Education Manual: Sewer Line Root Control contains everything you need to prepare for the sewer line root control certification exam. This manual discusses the chemical control of roots in sewer lines, as well as pesticide application.
