A Day in the Garden Patch is always a day well spent! PONTIAC, Ill. –
Join University of Illinois Extension – Livingston County Master Gardeners on Saturday, April 8 for a morning filled with colorful plants and new gardening insights at an event we like to call "A Day in the Garden Patch."
University of Illinois Extension is proud to present Patrick Murphy, horticulturist, and curator of Fell Arboretum on the campus of Illinois State University. Patrick will introduce gardeners to "The Seven Steps to Set up Your Home Landscape." Come learn the seven tried and true techniques used by the pros in creating landscapes. Leave with the foundation to create a well-planned and sustainable landscape of your own.
University of Illinois Extension Horticulture Educator, Kelly Allsup, will present Companion Vegetable Gardening," to prove that there is a perfect mate for everyone! She will help you find the right partners for your vegetables. You will learn about what plants will attract good insects or maybe even which will repel evil ones. Finally, she will review what plants will improve your soil and help your garden efficiently flourish.
A Container Making Party will conclude the event led by the Livingston County Master Gardeners. The Master Gardeners will provide tips on growing your new container, container ideas and those great color combinations that will surely make your neighbors envious. Each attendee will leave with a container planted with beautiful annuals ready to brighten any spot.
A $20 registration fee includes morning refreshments, three workshops, and supplies for a container garden. Check-In and light refreshments will be available at 8:30 a.m., with the workshops, beginning at 9 a.m. Your "Day at the Garden Patch" takes place at the University of Illinois Extension-Livingston County Office (1412 South Locust Street, Pontiac).
