On Saturday, February 7th, at PrairiErth Farm from 1:00 to 3:00 PM, Kaitie Adams, John Williams, and Nick Frillman will present on:
- The basics of fruit tree pruning principles, including desirable tree structure, types of growth to remove, and tool sanitation
- How pruning old, neglected fruit trees differs in terms of strategy, timetable, game plan, and tools needed
- How to actually get the old neglected fruit tree pruning process started - with electric saws, and more
This program will be a combination of classroom-style learning and field demonstrations, with potential audience assistance available and ample time for Q&A along the way. NOTE: Audience participation with power tools will NOT be possible.
Participants are encouraged to note the weather and take care to dress for it. If available, participants should bring pole saws. NOTE: This year's pruning class will be less hands-on than in years past, with a greater focus on learning how to rehabilitate old, neglected trees on your own property using your own tools at your own pace.
The principles learned in this class should apply to old apple, pear, peach, cherry, and cherry trees, and may have some application to other fruit trees as well.
