Explore Nature with the 2026 Cook County Junior Master Naturalist Program!
Are you a young leader who cares about your community, the environment, and creating a more just and sustainable future? The 2026 Cook County Junior Master Naturalist Program is an opportunity to explore how environmental stewardship and environmental justice work together to build healthier communities.
This exciting 4-H Special Interest Club invites high school youth to dive into local ecosystems in the Calumet Region through engaging outdoor activities led by trained educators and environmental experts. Participants will spend quality time outside, build observation skills, and deepen their understanding of nature, while learning how to care for the environment and their community.
Spring 2026 Schedule & Topics
Sessions will take place at Sand Ridge Nature Center, Camp Shabbona Woods, and Sandridge Community Center, featuring a new theme each week:
- 03/28 — Stewardship
- 04/04 — Geology and Landforms
- 04/11 — Wetlands and Ecology
- 04/18 — Botany and Native Plants
- 04/25 — Weather and Climate
- 05/02 — Naturalist Project Workshop
- 05/09 — 4-H Mini Fair
