Horticulture Team

Body

The Horticulture team in Cook County helps people appreciate and learn about the natural environment and local ecosystems. Their educational programs focus on food access and environmental issues.

The team trains groups, schools, organizations, and communities how to grow food at home and in community and school gardens. With the help of Master Gardener volunteers, our team installs food donation gardens to support community members and local food pantries. Furthermore, staff and volunteers help individuals create sustainable landscapes using Illinois native plants and pollinator-friendly gardens.

Master Gardeners are a vital piece of the horticulture program. They are volunteers who are passionate about gardening, teaching, and the environment. Their mission is to help others learn to grow. And delivering horticultural education is what they're all about!

The Cook County Horticulture team serves youth and adults of all ages and backgrounds through free or low-cost public programming.
